These two upright-designed high-armed chairs originated in Indonesia and are made from a beautiful red-brown mahogany species closely related to Sapelle Mahogany.
The design is elegant but the manufacturer’s finishing process left them rather rough around the edges.Grind marks where the manufacturer smoothed the surface using a grinder instead of a sander appeared all over the chairs and really detracted from their otherwise altogether good quality.
EARTHWOOD cleaned up the ground-out areas and re-stained, matching perfectly. Where it was necessary we filled the open grain and then re-polished the entire chairs in a practical good-looking two-pack satin polyurethane to bring them to a much improved state over their original new condition. Their essential elegance is no longer marred by poor finishing, and they’ll take years of wear now.
